Decisions and Distractions

I have decided that the hem will have to be ripped out. I only had to knit 3 rows of the neckline to figure that out.
I have decided that I really dislike purl 3 together through the back leg. But I’m an adult and it doesn’t do any good to complain. It may slow down my progress, though.
I have decided that I know who is getting the Moderne Baby Blanket I knit way back in 2008-2009. One of my best friends from college is having her first baby (a boy, due in July)! So any stalkers out there now know why I’m searching through the baby patterns on Ravelry and picking up 5 baby pattern books at the library. Right now my top to-knit choices are the Duck Feet and the Modernist Stripe Sleep Sacque (and awesomely, I picked up the book this pattern is in for $7 at Tuesday Morning one time). And I’m trying to choose a toy to knit, as well. I’m thinking one of the stuffed balls or stars that are out there. I own Zoe Mellor’s Knitted Toys, and I picked up Rebecca Danger’s Big Book of Knitted Monsters at the library, so I may go a little overboard for this baby. Too bad baby is going to be born in Germany! Ayyyy!, the shipping.
Why so overboard? Remember this?
And this?
Yup. She’s a knitter, too.
Sweater for Spring?

I’m moving right on down the body of Sahara.

Say Hi to Pigeon Snow White, everyone! Photo taken by Ladybug.
Actually, I’m binding off the body now. The picture was taken on Sunday. I think it’s going to fit, but right now it looks a little like one of these!
Happy March! I wonder if I’ll get a day to wear my sweater before Summer hits.
A follow-up to an old knit
September 29, 2010 at 8:11 am | Posted in FO, Pigeon | 1 CommentI’m still plugging away at my vest – the back is done and I’ve already split for the front. But instead of taking pictures of an off-white blob, I have pictures of something else – Pidge’s Boheme!
It’s actually (almost) the perfect size now. The neck is still big, even after I added a crochet chain around the back to pull it in. Some of this can be blamed on my gauge, and some can be blamed on the pattern – the arms needed to be placed a little further back. It fits perfectly in front.
Man, she was a happy kid this morning. I swear I didn’t give her pure sugar for breakfast.
Guess who’s two!

.
Look at the camera for me, honey.
.
Down here, sweetie.
.
Hmm, that doesn’t work. You shouldn’t have a double chin.
.
No more pictures, Mommy!
Motivation?
December 15, 2009 at 9:34 am | Posted in knitting, Ladybug, Pigeon, WIP | 2 CommentsYes, another long absence. No, I don’t have an excuse.
I’m hitting another of those blog ennui stretches — you know the kind — where I just don’t feel like blogging. Taking pictures is a hassle, sitting at the computer is so passé (probably because I sit at a computer at work all the time now), and of course it’s Chanukah and Christmas time, so my 3 hours of free time in the morning are full of shopping and wrapping and decorating and very little knitting.
But I did finish my fingerless mitts, and they are warm and wonderful. I wear them at work where it is chilly most of the time, and I have gotten many a compliment on them. So far, they haven’t been stolen from my desk and I expect that they won’t, given the great folks who are my coworkers.
Up next on the knitting docket is a scarf for Ladybug, who picked out the yarn herself at Michaels one day. I’m just doing a simple feather and fan, one repeat sort of situation.
The yarn is classified as a bulky so it’s moving rather quickly, even though I had to rip it out once and Pigeon pulled the needle out another time.
Speaking of the girls, they’re having a ball right now. Presents every night? Awesome!
So that’s all there is. How about you?
Happy Independence Day!

Home Again Home Again, Jiggity Jig
May 22, 2009 at 2:02 pm | Posted in Ladybug, Pigeon | 1 CommentHubby’s Grandpa passed away last week, more than a month after his heart attack (when the doctors gave him on average a week to live.) We zipped on up to Chicago for the funeral and family togetherness. I brought some knitting ripping knitting and ripping to do, but didn’t have much time to get it to a very photo-worthy point. Maybe next week, my friends.
So instead of knitting, I bring you kids playing at Millennium Park.

Self portrait of the family as reflected on the inside of the Bean
We saw one of Chicago’s famous residents. (Which, by the way, the Art Institute was free because of the opening of the new modern wing. We were ecstatic.)

But none of its famous knitters.
Now, if only it hadn’t taken 10 hours to get there and 13 hours to get home again.
Where has the time gone?
April 23, 2009 at 9:27 am | Posted in Pigeon | 2 CommentsIt wasn’t that long ago that she was a scrawny little newborn!
We’re Having Fun!
April 9, 2009 at 1:53 pm | Posted in Pigeon | 1 CommentI probably come off as complaining an awful lot about Pidge staying home with me, but I really do embrace our time together. We played on the floor, chasing each other, knocking things off her head, and just had fun for a while today.
I know that I’m not cut out to be a stay at home Mom. I find taking care of the kids very stressful – they’re hard bosses to please.
But I can certainly cherish this bit of time together. 10 months old is a great age. I might get to see her first steps!
She’d likely be walking to grab on Callie. Poor kitty.
No Time, Must Blog!
April 7, 2009 at 3:24 pm | Posted in knitting, me, Pigeon | 1 CommentIn an effort to save money, Pigeon is staying home with me during the day. This means that I have very little time for anything that isn’t entertaining the baby, or making sure she doesn’t crawl down the stairs (because up is so easy, she thinks down will be too, and MUST be done head-first), or eat all the paper in the house. (I still get Tuesdays though; my Aunt takes her for the day on Tuesday. Hence the blogging today. And job apps. And cleaning.)
But last week I did have some knitty fun. I picked up my Moderne Baby Blanket and knit a few ridges, and cast on for my Cardi Cozy in that gorgeous soft blue laceweight. I don’t have pictures because Hubby commandeered the camera for his trip to Phoenix and hasn’t yet returned it to its rightful place on my desk.
Phoenix? Well, Hubby’s Grandpa had a heart attack and his body is shutting down. He has a week or two left, and Hubby got the opportunity to fly down there and say his good-byes. It’s very sad, but Grandpa has led a very full life, and right now his quality of life is poor – he can’t walk any more, his kidneys are almost non-functioning, and he can’t take care of himself now. But his mind is all there, and that’s very reassuring.
On a lighter note, I got to go shopping with my Mom and Sister (who just got a job, yippie!) and got oodles of great interview/work outfits, and a couple pairs of very non-sensible shoes. I think my favorites are the python print pumps.
I know y’all read Techknitter, but did you know she reads my mind, and posts new articles about something I’m going to have to do on the next row of my current project?
I think that’s it.
