I’ll be brief

October 19, 2007 at 1:47 pm | In me | 3 Comments

Today is the day I turn 30.

There’s a lot of stress in my life right now, and there are also happy things.  I tend to internalize stuff which is why I’m stressed.  I’ll probaby be MIA for a while.  I’ll keep commenting and such, so you won’t think I’m dead or anything.  And of course I’ll be checking my email.

To Stacy who was interested in the Trekking yesterday

I sent an email to the email address you provided in your comment, but I haven’t heard back from you and was wondering if it had gotten caught in your spam filter.  Please let me know if you are still interested.

Thanks!

Same intro as yesterday:  All yarn is from a smoke-free home, however, there are cats here and they shed.  Even though they don’t play with the yarn, I’m sure it has come into contact with cat hair.  If you would sneeze standing 5 feet behind me in the grocery store checkout because I have a lone cat hair on my shirt, please don’t take this yarn.  All yarn has an asking price, but all prices are negotiable, especially if you take it all.  All prices include shipping inside the continental United States.  If you want me to ship somewhere else, I will for an additional $2.  Items will ship once payment has been received.  I prefer Paypal.  Leave me a comment and use a valid email address PLEASE!  Hunkey Dorey?

Ok, here are the goods.

Skacel Adagio, colorway Teal (06) Dyelot 102989 2 skeins. One skein was knit for a few yards, frogged, and rewound into a ball by hand. The other is in a yarn cake. Asking $18 for both.

It’s time to clean out the closet and let some stuff go to a good home.  Part I is the sock yarns.

All yarn is from a smoke-free home.  There are cats living here, and even though I do not allow them to roll around in the yarn, I’m sure some cat hair has come in contact with it.  All prices are negotiable, and include shipping.  I take Paypal, cash, check etc, and item will ship when payment has been received.  Leave a comment if you want anything.

Positive Progress

October 12, 2007 at 3:19 pm | In Socks, knitting | 3 Comments

For the first part of the week, my knitting was on a decidedly negative turn.  First Shedir, and then an attempt at Bellatrix (again) resulted in frogging.  I’ve finally started knitting something that’s not going to get frogged!

Flutter-By sock for Maggie

These are the Flutter-By socks (link in sidebar), using Koigu KPPPM P408.  I used a twisted 1×1 rib instead of a standard one, which I think you can tell by the biasing it produces.  But when it’s worn I don’t think it’ll matter.

That’s all I’ve got today, folks.  The brain just isn’t too chatty right now.  Have a nice weekend!

Today I will be positive

October 9, 2007 at 9:59 am | In yarn | 2 Comments

I’ve been complaining a lot this month, but what I really think is happening is a karmic kind of balance.  Sure, there’s been some bad, but there’s been some really good stuff too.

I’m one of those people who never win anything, so when I win two contests in a row I really feel lucky.  The first one was Sheri’s September Loot.

septblogloot

Two highly-coveted skeins of sock yarn!

Yarntini Variegated in Pumpkin Spice – destined to be Monkeys for my sister.

wollmeiserakuregenbogen01

wollmeiserakuregenbogen02

Wollmeise Superwash Sockenwolle in Raku-Regenbogen. I had a hard time getting all the colors in this colorway in the picture. Basically, it’s a rainbow but all the colors are muted and fall-like. I don’t normally gravitate to these colors when shopping, but I love them here!

Thanks, Sheri!

The second contest I won was Knitnzu’s Belated Blogiversary. I won more yarn and a special extra something….

shakespeare02

shakespeare01

Artful Yarns: Shakespeare. I haven’t done any research on it yet, but I think it’s a bulky single ply. I’m trying to decide if it’ll be soft enough for a new hat for Ladybug. What do you think, Lisa?

polkadotdpncase

And the little something extra is this too cute DPN case! We have a red and white polka-dot obsession going on at the house right now because of Ladybug’s Minnie Mouse costume. I’ve already got my size 1’s in there now.  Thanks Lisa, and I wish you many more happy blogiversaries!

Shedidn’t work out

October 8, 2007 at 8:02 am | In knitting | 1 Comment

The llama/silk blend just wasn’t right for the pattern.  It’s very soft and drapy, and the cables just didn’t pop the way they were supposed to.  I made it through row 17 before this realization.

Plus, I really need to learn how to cable without the cable needle before I try this hat again.

The tubular cast on was pretty, though.

So I am back to socks. I put myself to sleep last night mentally combing through my stash and various patterns, and I think I found a winning combination. Once I frog this hat I’ll get casting on.

New things I love

October 5, 2007 at 10:37 am | In knitting | Leave a Comment

I have found two new-to-me tutorials that I will now promote:  A Provisional Cast-on that Really Truly Unzips, and (somewhat related) a Tubular Cast-on.

If, perhaps, I can find a situation appropriate for photography, you will see why I love these two things together.

Also, knitting with a llama/silk blend should not be attempted on the slicker-than-snot Knitpicks 3.25mm metal DPNs.  No slippage or droppage has occurred, but that’s just because I am a contortionist who has managed so far to constantly support her knitting on her lap.  A trip to one of those LYS’s that hopefully has something in a lovely bamboo 16″ circular is planned for this afternoon.  I will first try the store that sold me this luscious yarn (and gave me a 20% discount because it’s for a good cause.)

What am I knitting with something that soft?  Well, let’s just say that I’ve gotten approval to Hat it to Maggie.

And if you’re wondering, October has continued to find ways to distress me.  I spilled coffee all over my couch earlier this week, and last night Ladybug didn’t go to sleep until 2am.

First (and maybe last) FO for my Hubby

October 3, 2007 at 3:31 pm | In FO, Socks, knitting | 3 Comments

Yes folks, the Husband Socks are done.

hubbysocks01

Pattern:  None.  Just generic measure the foot, subtract 10%, get my gauge and start knittin’.  There are 2.5″ of 2×2 ribbing at the cuff, and I used a standard slip stitch heel and wedge toe.
Yarn: Mountain Colors Bearfoot, colorway Larkspur, purchased at Personal Threads.
Needles: Crystal Palace Bamboo 6″ DPNs US size 1 (2.25mm).

hubbysocks02

Yeah, they’re on my feet.  Husband will wear them this weekend when the weather dips down into the 50’s all day long.  As you can see, they are too long for me.  This is a good thing.  Also, they are not tight at all.  Also good.  Hubby’s foot is a good inch wider around than mine is.

hubbysocks03

I used some sewing thread as reinforcement for the heel.  Maybe this was a stupid idea, but Hubby is very hard on the heels of his store-bought socks.

hubbysocks06

Isn’t the Bearfoot pretty?  I just love this colorway!  The mohair made it a little warm to knit with on those hot days when the A/C wasn’t working too well, but these should be lovely-warm for the winter.

hubbysocks04

You can’t see, but I also used some elastic thread in a nice chocolate brown for the first few rows of the cuff.  The staff at Personal Threads recommended that I try it, because he’s not going to like socks that pool around his ankles.  We’ll see if it works!

I think I must be oblivious

October 2, 2007 at 12:28 pm | In Ladybug, me | 3 Comments

And I totally blame October.  This October is the second annual celebration of my-brains-turn-to-mush Month.  Symptoms include going out to my van to get my drink (which I forgot earlier) and then nearly forgetting to also get the F connectors.  Also leaving the door unlocked at night.

October is very dangerous.  And you have to watch out for all the deer.

October also brings my 30th birthday.

And yesterday, October 1st, introduced me to the blog of my friend who had the copy of Stitch N Bitch that I perused and decided to start knitting and that’s totally a run-on sentence.  Michelle!  Hi!  You even added me as a friend in Ravelry, and I didn’t know it was you.  (That one I can’t really blame on October; I think September wanted to get in on the action too.)  Man, that was freaky for a while.  How many Michelles can there be out there just like you?  (PSST, hubby does not know exactly how much yarn is in the house.  Please keep it hush hush!)

In other news, as you may have guessed from the awkward wording of references to my daughter in the previous post, I have decided to stop using her name on the blog.  I think I have come up with a decent blogname for her – Ladybug.  Yes, it’s very cutesy and I haven’t really called her Ladybug for a year now, but I needed something.  I will take other suggestions, though, before I go back and change my archives.

Wearing Mommy's shoes

Can't quite get up

She’s in that phase where she loves to dress up.  My shoes are fair game!
