Different Philosophies
June 29, 2007 at 11:18 am | In me | 3 CommentsYeah, I’m still here. I’ve been working support for a new store that’s opening in my area.
Speaking of which, I was talking with one of the coordinators, and I asked him if the store was going to install any cut-out ramps in the concrete right in front of the entrance/exit doors. He looked at me like I was a crazy insane person. Appparently this retailer’s perspective is “We want to make it easy for customers to come into the store. Once we’ve got their money, we don’t care if they have $1000 worth of equipment in a shopping cart, they can push it around an extra 20 feet to get to the existing ramp around the corner.”
Then of course he pointed down the strip mall and said, “I bet Office Depot doesn’t have any ramps in front of their doors.”
On the way back from lunch we drove past Office Depot. Yup, the whole front section was a ramp.
I can see why this particular national retailer is having some problems. They seem to think it’s well-paid loyal workers, I’m getting more of a customer service/satisfaction vibe. Luckily, I’m not directly employed by them!
Inertia, or random Friday
June 22, 2007 at 9:38 am | In me | Leave a CommentYou know that feeling, right? You start the day ready to tackle the toy explosion in the living room, and by 10am you just can’t keep yourself focused. You really want to relax. Sit on the couch, eat a few almonds, and pretty soon you’re thinking about blogging. Or maybe taking those pictures of your stash.
NONONONONONO, I need to keep working. Ok, I need to take this load of toys upstairs to the computer room. Hey, I can blog for a minute. Just a minute!
Yeah. That feeling.
So to make up for having to work on Saturday (tomorrow!), I am basically taking today off. I’m on call so no Anna! It’s a total recipe for disaster.
I started the cuff for my Pomatomus mate, but you’ve seen a picture of the other cuff and it looks the same, so….
Ok, back to cleaning. I’ll probably swing by a Home Depot and look for a toy containment strategy. Don’t you wish you were me?
Don’t answer that!
All right, Mr. DeMille, I’m ready for my Kitchener
June 21, 2007 at 12:28 pm | In knitting, me, pomatomus | 1 CommentInformation for posterity:
Stop chart B on row 17, omit all YO’s on row 18, omit first 2 YO’s on row 19. Follow Cookie’s instructions until 7 stitches left on each needle, then decrease every row for two rows. Kitchener.
Voila, not-too-pointy-toe!
It’s amazing how much knitting I can get done when Anna wants her Daddy to put her to bed. I did feel guilty for a moment, but then I got over it. Hubby would have just been watching TV. And I did wash the dishes.
In fact, these past couple of nights I have had a lack of patience in dealing with Anna. She’s found her whiny voice, and it irritates me very quickly. Plus I’ve been extra tired in the evenings. I think I need to improve my diet (as seen in abundance in yesterday’s post), and stop drinking so much soda. My rule used to be soda only at restaurants, water at home. I also allowed myself some Crystal Light beverages if I wanted flavor. The rule slowly bent more and more, and then I found myself reaching for Hubby’s Pepsi, and decided that if I was going to drink pop at home, at least I should get some diet pop. Presto-Chango, I’m drinking it all the time now.
Whoopsie
June 20, 2007 at 11:40 am | In me, yarn | 2 CommentsThe Wollmeise yarn isn’t scheduled to be part of this sneak-up. But I’m still stalking. I think a lot of other people are too; the site is sluggish today!
The diet’s not going so well right now. I’ve had a couple of visits from my friends Ben and Jerry, and then Double Stuf came (but at least he brought along his cousin 2 percent, so that’s healthy.) Easter Candy has been hanging around since April.
Coincidentally, does anyone actually prefer the regular Oreos to the Double Stuf?
At least tonight’s dinner won’t be from a package labeled “Voila” or “Skillet Sensation.”
Cheezburger?
June 19, 2007 at 12:26 pm | In cats | 1 CommentEverybody knows about I can has Cheezburger, right? This recent submission sent me reeling!
Just FYI
June 19, 2007 at 10:18 am | In yarn | Leave a CommentI am stalking Sheri’s site today. And tomorrow. I want in on this sneak up (mostly because of the German yarn!).
If I spend another $8, I get my first $25 credit. I have been holding on to that knowledge for a couple of weeks now. I feel the money burning a hole in my pocket.
Also, 2 more purchases and I will be a Loopy Groupie.
Something fishy this way comes

June 18, 2007 at 2:41 pm | In knitting, pomatomus, weekend wrapup | Leave a CommentYup, you lucky readers get a picture of my in progress Pomatomus*. Don’t you feel special?
But first, you get to read about a miraculous occurrence at our house this weekend. Don’t want to? Well, just keep scrolling.
On Saturday morning I was not woken up by an unhappy toddler or an alarm clock. I was allowed to wake up completely naturally! And then I got to do the same thing on Sunday morning. Hallelujah! Did you know that you don’t need coffee in the morning if you’re well rested?
So, back to the sock. Lisa’s suggestion to purl that first instep stitch through the back leg is working beautifully.

This area is where my picture was going to go before I tried to turn the camera on. Apparently between this morning and this afternoon my battery died. You’ll get a picture soon, I promise!
So much for the feel goods
June 15, 2007 at 9:33 am | In Ladybug, me | 1 CommentYeah, what would really make me happy right now is a full night’s sleep. Toddler is back to being sick; this time it’s a cough that wakes her up in the middle of the night and prevents both her and I from getting more than 4 hours.
Anna even climbed into bed with us for an hour, which she doesn’t like to do. That ended when she climbed out of the bed to catch the cat. Nope, she didn’t sleep at all in that hour. Too bad it was from 12:30-1:30 am.
I’m feeling an urge for some soothing retail therapy. I just need to finish up one big thing at work today and then I can go home without any guilt.
